Kenyan Ear Camp 2007

On 26th of June 2007, 2 suitcases crammed with hearing aids, batteries, solar rechargers, training material, earmould accessories etc were checked in by Seema.  She was on her way to Nairobi where she had been invited to attend an Ear Camp.  During her visit to Kenya, Seema trained nurses, audiologists, ENT doctors and clinical officers in Mombasa and Nairobi.

The ear camp itself was held over 3 days during which Seema and her locally trained team fitted 70 hearing aids and provided diagnostic support to the surgeons.

Seema says, “ It was a gratifyingly busy fortnight and I think we have progressed and learned tremendously from this work.  We found some innovative ways to ease the process of hearing aid fittings and got some excellent feedback from satisfied patients”

Seema continues to work hard so that local knowledge and equipment is built up.  She is keen that Centres become self-sufficient and can carry on doing quality Audiology work and sustain themselves.  She has recently been invited to help develop hearing care facilities in Uganda.  In April 2008, she is being sponsored by Impact UK to visit Zanzibar to develop the Hearing Centre with the magical address of 1 Coconut Tree!
